FNM Ratifies Candidates In Seven New Providence Constituencies

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The Free National Movement (FNM) has added seven new candidates to its slate for the upcoming general election, including fresh faces in some of the country’s most closely watched constituencies.

Supporters turned out in full force Thursday night as the party ratified the candidates, many of whom are aiming to challenge high-profile seats currently held by prominent politicians.

In Killarney, a constituency previously represented by former Prime Minister and FNM leader Dr. Hubert Minnis, Michela Barnett-Ellis received the party’s endorsement. Speaking to reporters, she said she looks forward to earning Minnis’ support. “We’ve had brief conversations, but I am honored to have been ratified and I look forward to serving the people and challenging the PLP in the next election,” Barnett-Ellis said.

Lincoln Deal, previously considering Killarney, will now contest Freetown. Flanked by former FNM candidate Dionisio D’Aguilar, Deal said he is ready to build on previous initiatives in the community. “There’s a lot of work to do in Freetown, and we look forward to delivering good governance,” he added.

The party also confirmed former Bain and Grants Town MP Travis Robinson as its candidate for Fort Charlotte. Addressing potential competition from Island Luck CEO Sebas Bastian, Robinson remained unfazed. “The bigger they are, the harder they will fall,” he said, noting that the PLP has not yet named a candidate for the constituency.

Denalee Penn-Mackey, CEO of Evergreen Mortuary, was ratified for Southern Shores. Having previously sought the PLP nomination, Penn-Mackey said her decision to join the FNM was driven by a desire to serve her country. “I have worked hard and I believe I have more to offer. I look forward to working with Michael Pintard because I believe he is the best choice for The Bahamas,” she said.

Finally, Heather McDonald will contest Englerston. Emphasizing the need for new ideas, she said, “I’m coming with more fire. I’m coming to make a difference. This is Englerston’s time.”

With the addition of these candidates, the FNM strengthens its lineup with a mix of experienced leaders and newcomers, setting the stage for a closely watched election cycle.
