NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that a member of its staff at the Commonwealth of The Bahamas Embassy in Port Au Prince, Haiti has been kidnapped.

According to the family of the long-time employee, the incident took place around 6am on September 1st in the employee’s neighborhood.

The matter has been reported to local police in Haiti and is being investigated. The ministry is committing to assist authorities as well.

The statement further notes that staff members are generally not at risk, however, additional security measures are being taken. The embassy will continue to monitor the situation along with the general security situation in Port Au Prince.
