NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The Bahamas has been without a United States Ambassador since Nicole Avant left office in 2011. Since then, four Charge d’Affaires have been appointed with Usha Pitts currently serving in that position.

Foreign Affairs Minister Fred Mitchell says while he welcomes the opportunity of a new ambassador, he is pleased with the job that Pitts is doing.

Mitchell hinted that the process of choosing a new ambassador can be influenced by politics.
