Former PM Minnis Reacts To Dome Demolition

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The Spring City domes were demolished earlier this week. Now, former Prime Minister Dr. Hubert Minnis is commenting on the matter saying he is disappointed.

Following this weeks demolition of the domes in Abaco – former Prime Minister Dr. Hubert Minnis expressing his disappointment that the domes were destroyed rather than dismantled and stored.

The demolition itself had been planned for August 31st, the week of the third anniversary of monster storm Dorian’s landfall. 

A subsequent extension was announced that same day, but the details on it were never provided by the department of housing or the DRA. 

The office of the prime minister releasing a 4-page press statement stressing the devolution of the grounds as well as alleging the site was being “misused and abused in several ways by a number of residents”.

The statement also said the initial plan was to dismantle the domes in the hope that something might be salvaged. However, they claim the site is riddled with mold.

The former prime minister doesn’t see the mold issues as a reason to destroy the domes…….

The Office of the Prime Minister also saying most residents will attest to their good treatment, noting stipends and assistance in kind for their transition to “more dignified housing”, but that a few residents have been “reluctant”.

The Davis administration has also promised that Abaconians can expect hundreds of new homes in the coming year.
