NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Former Police Staff Association chairman Sonny Miller will spend six years in prison for abusing his position to assist drug traffickers.

Miller helped two Colombian traffickers load 72 kilos of cocaine, worth $1.4 million, and 15 kilos of marijuana, valued at $68,000 into a police jeep after their plane landed at the Spring Point, Acklins on June 7, 2022.

ASP Miller – who also served as Police Staff Association chairman, was out on bail pending his trial, showed his disappointment as he shook his head when the verdict was read when he was convicted last month.

The charges including possession of marijuana and cocaine with intent to supply, as well as conspiracy and importation of drugs.

At the time of his arrest, the 49-year-old was in charge of police operations in Acklins, Crooked Island, and Long Cay.

Testimony from two Colombian pilots, Cristhian Aristi-Zabal and Cristhian Aragon, revealed that miller helped them offload drugs into a police jeep.

Things took a turn when a U.S. Coast Guard helicopter arrived on the scene.

In a twist, Miller pulled his gun on the pilots and arrested them.

Footage from the helicopter supported their story, showing all three men moving bundles from the plane to the police vehicle just before law enforcement arrived.

Aristi-Zabal and Aragon pleaded guilty last year and were sentenced to 60 months in prison as part of a plea deal.
