NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Before being selected to lead one of the largest church bodies in the country, Bishop Joseph Smith started from humble beginnings.

Smith was born on March 1, 1964, in Long Island to Emily Smith and Abram Horton.

He moved to New Providence at the age of six, where he completed his education and dedicated his life to the lord on Christmas Sunday in 1992.

He later joined Southland Church of God under Bishop Teuron C. Stubbs.

At the age of 30, Smith discovered his calling in youth ministry and was appointed as assistant youth pastor under the guidance of Reverend Hubert Smith.

He recalls his first sermon.

While his life has centered around his christianity, Smith has also made his mark in the world of sports.

Both playing and coaching baseball and volleyball teams and even serving on the Olympic committee. He’s also a sports hall of fame inductee.

A man of many roles, smith reflects on a period in his life when he struggled to balance family and ministry.

As he ascends to the position of administrative Bishop, Smith reveals his primary goals are strengthening community ties, fostering inclusivity, and promoting a deeper understanding of the faith.
