GRAND BAHAMA, BAHAMAS – Professional Services Bahamas gears up to host their annual awards ceremony. It comes as the country celebrates the 50th anniversary of independence. This year, 50 Bahamians were selected, many of them from Grand Bahama. I spoke with a few honorees who share what this award means to them.

Sgt. Sasha Gibson of the Royal Bahamas Police Force shared some words of advice. She is one of the 50 Bahamians under the age of 40 honored by Professional Services Bahamas for her outstanding contributions to nation-building.

The officer, who has been a part of the force for some fifteen years, is a mother with an associate, bachelors and master’s degree and is a doctoral candidate and active within her community.

Another Grand Bahamian honoree, Ava Andrew, from the Ministry of Tourism holds a bachelors and masters degree.

With some ten years of experience in the tourism sector she says this is not only a job, it’s a passion.

Heavy Equipment Operator at Bahama Rock Sanadia Smith is involved in a number of activities from bodybuilding, power-lifting, sports, singing and dancing.

She says the award took her by surprise.
