GRAND BAHAMA, BAHAMAS – For the month of September consumers of the Grand Bahama Power Company will see a slight increase in their fuel charge rate, the announcement coming from GBPC recently.

However, residents say now is not the time as the service from the utility company has been deplorable.

Just over the weekend, many households on the island experienced multiple power outages in a day, lasting for more than two hours at a time.

The power company releasing a load-shedding schedule on its Facebook page but some residents say that the schedule was not followed as their power remained off.

On the power company’s Facebook page Monday night after another power outage, GBPC advised customers “power was restored and they do not foresee interruption of services as they have added seven new temporary generators to their fleet and returned one unit to service.”

But shortly after some resIdents took to Facebook claiming their home still did not have electricity.

Now GBPC’s regulator, the Grand Bahama Port Authority (GBPA) revealed on Saturday they met with leaders at the power company to get a clear understanding of the issues and the plan for remediation.

GBPA President Ian Rolle says the GBPC team is working with urgency to repair generating units and bring them back into service.

He adds the GBPA will continue to monitor the utility company’s progress as they stressed the need to resolve the issues as qUickly as possible.

One Grand Bahama resident says the problem is now upsetting his entire community.
