NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The girls in ICT day event held at Atlantis Paradise Island ended with applause as young Bahamian women received full-ride scholarships to Virginia State university to pursue degrees in stem fields.

Kierria Rolle is a 17-year-old student at Nassau Christian Schools. She says this scholarship changes everything for her.

Rolle told us her interest in engineering has been a dream of hers ever since a science experiment in middle school.

The scholarship was from the Cable Bahamas group of companies, Virginia State University, and the Nassau Bahamas alumnae chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated, and required applicants to send in a 60-second video where they spoke about the importance of women in stem, why they want to pursue a career in the field, and how they hope to improve the country with their degree in stem.

The scholarship also required a minimum of a 3.2-grade point average.

Carla Elvies is a student of Bahamas Academy and was the second to win a full ride to Virginia State University.
