NASSAU, BAHAMAS – For more than three decades, the unmistakable aroma of freshly prepared conch has drawn locals and tourists alike to a vibrant corner of Arawak Cay, the home of Goldie’s, owned by none other than Kirkwood “Goldie” Evans. Known far and wide as the “Conch King,” Goldie has built more than just a restaurant, he’s built a culinary legacy, one crack conch plate at a time.

Last year, we stepped into his kingdom for the first time, daring to put his reputation to the test in our signature taste challenge. We left humbled, my tastebuds completely captivated by the flavor, freshness, and flair of his dishes.

So, as Independence season rolled around and the call for authentic down-home food grew louder, there was only one place my journey could lead: right back to Goldie’s.

This time, the experience was elevated. Greeted by the Conch King himself in a beautifully renovated dining area, we were immediately presented with a plate of golden crack conch and a chilled bowl of vibrant conch salad, no frills, no extras, just pure Bahamian flavor. And the challenge? It was back on.

GOLDIE:
“No ketchup, no hot sauce, just conch. Now I want you to be honest. Not just because I sitting here. The only way I could get better is if I get complaints. So tell me, this tastes good, right?”

DENIELLE:
“Still the king. Still the king. I love to hear that.”

And I’m not the only one singing his praises.

TOURIST:
“We’re staying at a completely different place, but everyone said, ‘You have to go to Goldie’s for the conch fritters and salad.’ They said it’s better, and it is better.”

CHOVEZ MCBRIDE:
“I live and work in Grand Bahama, but every time I come over , which is almost every month, I skip breakfast. No matter what time my flight lands, my first stop is always Goldie’s.”

From the food to the flavor to the family-style welcome, Goldie’s remains a national treasure, preserving the soul of Bahamian cuisine one dish at a time.
