NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Promotions are on the way. That’s the word from the Department of Public Service as the state minister announced a service-wide promotion exercise slated to cost just under $4 million dollars.

Hundreds of public service employees will be promoted in the coming months, according to State Public Service Minister Pia Glover-Rolle who announced the promotional exercise today.

The promotions she says will come into effect in the next budget cycle beginning July 1.

The last promotional exercise was in 2014 under the former Christie administration.

While she says these exercises should take place every two years, Glover-Rolle says that hasn’t happened due to budgetary constraints.

But she says the promotions won’t come without qualifications.

She also revealed some public servants will receive two promotions.

Glover-Rolle says the public service is faced with not having sufficient middle-level officers.

But she explains there is a process.

Since taking office, the Davis administration signed multiple industrial agreements.

However, this announcement won’t come without criticism from those who may feel promotions within government are handed out to political supporters.
