Govt’s Position Hasn’t Changed on Gas Price Hike

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Petroleum dealers on New Providence continuing to stand their ground as they ask government to return to the table to discuss an increase in the fuel margins. Well, the minister of economic affairs gave an update on the government’s stance.

The Bahamas Petroleum Retailers Association issuing a statement this morning, noting they are hoping to hear from the government regarding an increase in the fuel margins. 

They say, if government does not continue discussions, they will have no choice but to take further action. 

Well, Minister of Economic Affairs, Michael Halkitis, is assuring residents that there is diesel on the island, but he hopes the association reconsiders their position.

He says this conversation has been ongoing for months.

The prime minister telling a local daily just yesterday, that a team is working on a resolution. 

Minister Halkitis says government does in fact want to continue conversations as this issue impacts the entire population. 

He says while the easiest solution would be to grant the increase, that would mean everyone will pay more at the pumps. 

He says there are some proposals on the table in which they continue to go back and forth on.
