Guyanese MP Resigns After Rape Allegations

GUYANA – Guyanese Local Government Minister Nigel Dharamlall who has now resigned as a member of parliament and cabinet member.

It comes after a 16-year-old schoolgirl made a rape allegation against him which he denied. He went on leave to facilitate the investigation and was later arrested and placed on one million dollars bail.

Last week, the schoolgirl said she no longer wanted to pursue the matter.

Guyana’s director of public prosecutions has said she will not proceed with any charges against the minister.
