NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A Haitian woman has admitted to failing to declare almost $12,000 that she was taking to Haiti.

Camtrice Jean, 35, of Marsh Harbour, Abaco, was arrested at the Lynden Pindling International Airport on February 17 after she was found with $11,961.

Jean was required to declare the money to Bahamas Customs, but didn’t.

She admitted the offense before Magistrate Abigail Farrington, who fined her $1,000 to avoid a default sentence of three months in custody.

The magistrate has reserved her decision on whether the undeclared money will be forfeited to the Crown.

Meanwhile, Jean has been ordered deported to Haiti because she was in the country illegally.
