UNITED STATES – The U.S food and Drug Administration has now formally classified a voluntary recall of shredded cheese sold at Aldi, Target, Walmart, and other national retailers, after concerns that some products may have been contaminated with metal fragments.

Great Lakes Cheese first issued the recall back in October, saying a supplier alerted them that raw material used in low-moisture part-skim mozzarella could contain foreign material.

The FDA has now labeled it a class two recall, meaning exposure could cause temporary or medically reversible health issues.

The company says all affected products were removed from store shelves weeks ago… and any cheese currently on sale is safe to eat.

But if households still have the recalled items in their fridge, they should throw them out or return them for a refund.

The impacted products were sold under various store brands in more than thirty states and Puerto Rico.
