NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The NBA preseason is underway, and Sunday night’s matchup took us to California where Buddy Hield and Deandre Ayton faced off in the first of many head-to-head matchups this season.
Buddy Hield and his Golden State Warriors got the best of Deandre Ayton and the Los Angeles Lakers, 111-103, at the Chase Center in San Francisco.
Hield came off the bench for 11 points in 18 minutes, shooting 5-for-10 from the floor and 1-for-4 from three-point range.
Ayton had a much better offensive showing than his preseason debut, recording seven points on 3-for-8 shooting, seven rebounds, and two blocks in 21 minutes.
This was just the first of three matchups between these two teams this month. They will be back at it as the preseason continues on October 12, followed by the games that count: October 21, Warriors at Lakers on opening night of the regular season at the Staples Center.
MLB Playoffs: Jazz Chisholm and Yankees on Brink
After Sunday night’s blowout, Jazz Chisholm Jr. and the New York Yankees are on the brink of elimination in the MLB playoffs.
Every game moving forward is now a must-win game for Chisholm and the Yankees, as the Toronto Blue Jays dominated in Game Two, winning 13-7 to take a 2-0 series lead in the best-of-five series.
Through two games, Chisholm is just one-for-eight with no extra-base hits or RBI. He reached on an error Sunday night but, like the rest of the lineup, is still searching for that big moment.
Game Three shifts to the Bronx on Tuesday night at 8:08 p.m. Carlos Rodón gets the ball for New York against Toronto’s Shane Bieber as the Yankees try to keep their season alive.
Mets Coaching Changes: Antoan Richardson Retained
After missing out on the MLB postseason, the New York Mets have made major changes to their coaching staff, but Antoan Richardson will return.
Richardson avoided being a casualty of the fallout and was invited to return to the club in 2026. He will be one of the few holdovers from manager Carlos Mendoza’s staff that saw massive turnover in just a few days.
Gone are a pair of hitting coaches, a pitching coach, a third-base coach, and a bench coach who resigned.
Since joining the organization, Richardson has earned widespread respect for his energy, preparation, and connection with players.
He was credited this year with sharpening the Mets’ base-running approach, helping the team finish in the top half of the National League in stolen bases and aggressive first-to-third opportunities.
New York became one of the most efficient base-stealing teams in the majors this season, and Richardson guided big-money free agent Juan Soto to nearly a 40-40 season, with Soto putting up 38 stolen bases when his previous career high was just 12.
