“His Faithfulness Can Never Be Compared”

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Whether it was ordained from birth, or influenced by his father as the church’s catechist, Drexel Gomez dedicated his life to his church from priest to bishop, to archbishop and even into retirement.

From a boy to young priest and full circle as a retired clergy – St. Agnes remained at the center of his faith.

“Despite all of his many, many credentials and going all over the world, he never forgot where he came from…he loved this place,” Hanna said.

The St. Agnes Anglican Church is where he was first instructed in the ways and teachings of the gospel and Anglican faith.

His church family not only benefitted from his expertise as a biblical scholar, but his compassion and love for people.

“His faithfulness can never be compared. Even pre-COVID, if he was required for some reason for an emergency, he would appear.”

“He took every opportunity to expound on biblical teachings. I’m not sure what computer was operating up there, but he had a memory like no one else I can recall,” Osadebay said.

Yet, for as astute as he was on biblical teachings, he never shied away from an opportunity to be the moral conscience when needed.

“If he saw something going astray, he had the courage to speak out. He had the courage to say “guys, something is wrong, we gatta fix it,” Cartwright said.
