NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The closure of the historic Hilton hotel is not expected to last too much longer, according to Acting Prime Minister Chester Cooper.

The tourism minister telling reporters he has been in contact with China Construction America owners of the property, and he’s hopeful the 10-month closure won’t last much longer.

Back in mid-February, owners of the historic hotel decided to close the 300-plus room downtown, leaving more than 120 employees without jobs.

At the time, Strategic Property Holdings, which manages the property, in a letter to the Bahamas Hotel Catering and Allied Workers Union, said the decision to cease operations came after, “carefully analyzing business performance over an extensive period of time and the dismal business forecast for the foreseeable future”.
