NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The sweltering summer heat has brought with it heightened electricity bills to the surprise of many consumers.

Since July, many have complained saying they saw their power bills double in some instances.

Bahamas Power and Light Chief Operating Officer Toni Seymour explains the increase in bills are two-fold.

You may recall Prime Minister Philip Davis announcing back in October 2022 that the fuel charge will nearly double for smaller consumers in less than a year while larger consumers will see the fuel charge nearly triple.

At the time, Davis said the move was unavoidable.

However, Seymour says consumers can expect relief soon.

But the big question for many is what can be done to reduce power bills in the short term. Seymour lays out a few energy-saving measures.
