NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Before competition begins, the Devynne Charlton Invitational is already setting the tone for what is expected to be a historic day for her Breaking Barriers Foundation and for Bahamian track and field.

The foundation will host the inaugural Devynne Charlton Invitational Saturday at the original Thomas A. Robinson stadium – but before we get to that, the organization hosted media day Thursday to galvanize support and build excitement ahead of the event.

The meet will bring together young stars and elite competitors from the U7 age groups, all the way to open events.

This first edition is expected to feature some of the top sprint hurdlers in the world – including olympic champion Masai Russell, two time world champion Danielle Williams, and world championship bronze medallist Megan Simmonds as just a few of the headliners.

Charlton is no stranger to giving back beyond her 60m hurdles world record.

Her organization has been dedicated to providing resources and opportunities for underserved student-athletes in The Bahamas, which has included scholarship opportunities, free hurdles clinics, and equipment donations.

Warhawks Defeat Mingoes In Straight Sets

The University of The Bahamas Mingoes Women’s Volleyball team dropped another match and now have a .500 record on the season.

The Mingoes fell in straight sets to the Warhawks at the D.W. Davis Gymnasium 25-17, 25-22, and 25-17 in New Providence Volleyball Association Play.

Assistant Head Coach Sydline Justilien said the energy was there early, but the Mingoes couldn’t maintain it through all three sets.

UB Captain and Outside Hitter Anjeniker Joseph led the Mingoes with 11 points, including 7 kills and 4 service points, while Middle Blocker Alexander Pinder added 5 points.

Vanessa Sawyer was the difference for the Warhawks, finishing with a match-high 18 points.
