INDONESIA – Six people, including police officers and organizers, could face criminal charges for their roles in a deadly crush at a football match last month in Indonesia.

A human rights commission has ruled that the tear gas fired by Indonesian police trigged the catastrophe, claiming 135 lives.

Most of the deaths were due to asphyxiation.

On October 1, police attempted to subdue fans by firing tear gas after they ran onto the field following their team’s defeat.

Hundreds then tried to flee through exits leading to a deadly stampede.
