WORLDWIDE – Small island nations are turning up the pressure ahead of the upcoming COP30 Climate Summit in Brazil, warning the world is running out of time.

Representatives of the Alliance of Small Island States voiced their concerns Friday at the World Leaders’ Summit in Belém, calling for stronger climate commitments and fairer global policies.

Haitian and Tuvaluan delegates also referenced the destruction caused by Category 5 Hurricane Melissa, saying it underscores the urgency for climate justice and resilience funding.

The two-day summit wrapped up Friday with participation from over a hundred countries, setting the stage for Monday’s COP30 meeting in the Brazilian Amazon.
