ISRAEL – Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu took the stand for the first time on Tuesday, in his long-running corruption trial, despite Israel’s ongoing war with Hamas.

He faces charges of bribery, fraud, and breach of trust related to gifts from wealthy friends and alleged regulatory favors for media tycoons.

His testimony will continue three times a week, even amid the conflict in Gaza.

Netanyahu denies the charges, calling the investigations a witch hunt. The trial, which began in 2019, has deeply divided Israeli politics and coincides with growing tensions over the war and the judiciary’s role.
