JAMAICA – The push to repeal Jamaica’s 126-year-old Obeah Act is sparking fierce backlash from Christian groups.

The Unuchi Foundation argues the law unfairly criminalizes African spiritual traditions. But church leaders warn that legalizing Obeah would open the door to “demonic forces.”

Bishop Alvin Bailey has called it the “most disastrous decision” Jamaica could make, while the Foundation maintains the move is about honoring ancestors and supporting modern practitioners.
