JAPAN – Japan’s chief cabinet secretary says 120 people are awaiting rescue in areas hit by a New Year’s Day earthquake, with a death toll of at least 30.

955 evacuation centers are providing shelter to 57,360 evacuees.

The 7.6 magnitude quake this week triggered tsunamis, prompting the deployment of a 3,000-strong rescue crew to the Noto Peninsula in Ishikawa.
