The Marlins Outfielder is Hitting Well in Spring Training

Jupiter, FL, USA. 2023 was somewhat of a lost season for Miami Marlins outfielder Jazz Chisholm.

The New Providence-born phenom with surprising pop in his bat and blazing speed on the bases went down with a turf toe injury in May. Opting to play through it, he still managed to finish the season with 97 of a possible 162 games played, hitting a career-high 19 home runs, with a .250 average, a .760 OPS and an alarming 118 strikeouts.

After undergoing surgery in October for his turf toe and missing the first part of spring training trying to recover, he seems to have found his swing.

On Saturday he went 2-2 with an RBI and a walk as his Marlins’ preseason matchup with the Philadelphia Phillies ended in a 3-3 stalemate after Jazz lined a pitch into right field, driving in a run to tie the game up.

This followed another strong performance from Jazz on Friday against the St. Louis Cardinals where Jazz went 2-3 with a couple of singles and a run scored to help the Marlins get an 8-4 win.

It may not seem like much, but playing through injuries, Jazz has been strikeout-prone. The fact that he’s making contact and getting hits early bodes positively for him and for the Marlins.

If Jazz can stay healthy and consistently make contacts, not just swing for the fences, look for him and the Marlins to devastate the National League.
