WASHINGTON, UNITED STATES – The body of former U.S. President Jimmy Carter arrives in Washington today for three days of mourning.

The 39th President, who passed away on December 29th at age 100, will lie in state at the U.S. Capitol before a state funeral at the Washington National Cathedral on Thursday.

Carter, remembered as a Humanitarian and Nobel Peace Prize Winner, served one term from 1977 to 1981. Both President Biden and President-elect Trump are expected to attend Thursday’s service.

Public viewing begins tonight in the Capitol Rotunda, with heightened security ahead of Trump’s Inauguration on the 20th.
