NEW YORK, U.S.A. – She’s got an MVP, All-WNBA selections, All-Defensive team selections, Most Improved Player, Sixth Woman of the Year – and now, finally – you can call her an WNBA Champion.

Jonquel Jones delivered a Finals MVP performance and the New York Liberty claimed its first WNBA title in it’s 28-year-old franchise history.

The Liberty claimed the title with a 67-62 win over the Minnesota Lynx in the fifth and deciding game of the WNBA Finals.

Jones finished with 17 points and six rebounds in game five.

She averaged 17.8 points and 7.8 rebounds per game over the course of the series to earn MVP honors.

Jones converted on her first three attempts from the field and has the third-most field goals made in WNBA Finals history.

She is also now third on the WNBA’s all-time finals rebounding list.

New York came back from a 12-point deficit after missing the team’s first 15 three-pointers to win game 5, marking the first time in WNBA postseason history that a team won a winner-take-all game after missing 10 or more three-pointers to begin the game.

In Antoan Richardson’s first season with the New York Mets, their postseason run was one to remember.

That run came to an end in game 6 of the National League Championship Series when the Mets lost 10-5 to the Los Angeles Dodgers at Dodgers Stadium in L.A.

The Mets’ memorable September run led to an 89-73 record, 3rd in NL East.

They started the season 0-5 and feel to 11 games under .500 in late May, but rallied to earn a playoff berth in the regular season finale.

They club went on to pull off a dramatic wild-card win over the Milwaukee Brewers before eliminating the Phillies in four games in the NLDS.

This season marked the second time in his career as a coach that Richardson advanced to the postseason.

In 2021, his San Francisco Giants advanced to the NLDS before they were eliminated by the dodgers.

Meanwhile, The stage is set, the east coast west coast rivalry is back. Not the one that ruined my childhood (RIP Pac and Big), this one takes place in the fall classic.

Jazz Chisholm Jr and the New York Yankees will face the Los Angeles Dodgers to decide the 2024 World Series title.

The Dodgers will host games one and two Friday and Saturday at Dodger Stadium. Times are still to be decided but the games will be carried live on Fox.

Chisholm has yet to face the Dodgers in Yankee pinstripes but he’s done so several times as a Miami Marlin.

In 14 career games against the Dodgers he hit .316 with 18 hits, 5 home runs, 11 rbi and nine runs.

This season, he faced the Dodgers in a three-game series in may where he went 3-12 with a home run and three rbi.

Ask any baseball historian and they’ll tell you how the Yankees and Dodgers used to face each other often in the fall classic, but this will be the first time facing each other on this stage in 43 years.

The Yankees are chasing their 28th World Series, first since 2009, while the Dodgers are chasing title number eight.

Chisholm will become the second Bahamian player to appear in the World Series following Ed Armbrister with the Cincinnati Reds in 1975 and ’76.
