JJ, NY Liberty to Receive Rings on Opening Night

NEW YORK, U.S.A. – Jonquel Jones and the New York Liberty are still celebrating the franchise’s first WNBA title, but it’s never too early to look ahead to next year.

The 2025 WNBA scheduled was released and we learned the road to repeat.

The Liberty will open their 29th season on may 17 at Barclays Center against the Las Vegas Aces. 

During the game New York will raise its first postseason championship banner and players will receive their rings.

The game features the winners of the last three WNBA finals, as well as the last five MVP winners. 

The Liberty will open July with eight consecutive home games, by far their longest homestand of the season.

This will be the first season the WNBA will debut a 44-game schedule.

It will also see the debut of the new expansion franchise, the Golden State Valkyries.

Baseball

First pitch is less than 24 hours away and Team Bahamas takes on the region at the 15-u Caribbean Baseball Cup.

The Bahamas prepares to take on the Dominican Republic, Cuba, St. Maarteen and the U.S. Virgin Islands, beginning tonight at the Andre Rodgers National Stadium.

Albert Cartwright returns as team manager, assisted by Geron Sands, Lionel Ferguson Jr, and Ken Adderley.

The USVI and the Dominican Republic begin competition at 2pm and following the  opening ceremony, The Bahamas will take on Sint Marteen at 7:30pm.

After a day off, The Bahamas returns to the field Friday night at 7pm against the Dominican Republic.

They complete group play Saturday night against the USVI and Sunday night against Cuba. Both games are at 7pm.

The medal rounds will be played on Monday.

The Bahamas is currently ranked no. 47 by the World Baseball Softball Confederation rankings.

Sailing

Bahamian sailors are preparing to represent the country once again on the international stage.

The trio of Finley McKinney Lambert, Lorenzo Laramore and Callum Pritchard are set to compete at the 2024 Optimist World Championships, December 5-15 in Mar del Plata, Argentina.

The team will be coached by the Eleuthera Sailing Academy’s Martin Manrique.

They will compete among a talented field that includes 227 sailors from 57 countries around the world.

Mckinney-Lambert, the current optimist national champion, and Laramore, are both Eleuthera natives while Pritchard is from the capital.

Racing begins on Saturday, December 7th.

Soccer

A pair of sides kept their undefeated streaks going in the Bahamas Football Association men’s league headed into the Christmas break.

The Western Warriors titans and Dynamos FC improved to 5-0 Sunday at the Roscow Davies Soccer Field.

Dynamos FC overcame a slow start to blank Inter-Nassau BLS 5-0.

Scoreless at the half, the Dynamos came alive  led by league leading scorer Brandon Adderley.

Adderley scored four goals to bring his season total to 11, Dynamos added another from Valentino Hanna.

The Titans defeated Renegade FC 5-1 in the feature match of the night.

Jonny Tinnus led a dominant Western Warriors with his hat trick while Nahum Johnson scored the lone goal for the Renegades.

The UB Mingoes defeated the Western Warriors Gladiators 4-1.

Mingoes leading scorer Marlon Barnes and Ronaldo Green led the charge.

Cavalier FC defeated last place Team Baha Jr to the score of 4-1.  

The Reds got a hattrick from Alexio Munnings and a goal from Ahmad Adderley.  

Mercceus Bendjy scored the lone goal for Baha Jr.
