NEW YORK, U.S.A. – The defending WNBA champs are missing something. It’s been a struggle over the last month or so, but help is on the way – the MVP is on the way back.
Jonquel Jones has officially returned to the practice court for the Liberty and appears poised to make her return to regular season action shortly after the WNBA All-Star Break.
The Liberty are targeting July 22 against the Indiana Fever for her first game back.
After aggravating a right ankle injury on June 19, Jones was sidelined for what was projected as a 4-6 week recovery period.
She recently participated in full 5-on-5 practice on July 15 at Barclays Center and declared herself “99.9999999999999999 percent” healthy.
Since Jones was sidelined, the Liberty have struggled with a 4-6 record.
In her 2025 season prior to the injury, Jones averaged 12.1 points, 9.6 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game while shooting 47.5% from the field, an impressive 43.8% from three, over 9 contests.
Of course her impact extends well beyond the stat sheet, and as the Liberty makes its push through the second half of the season, Jones’ return could be the key that reignites those championship hopes.
Track & Field
Bahamians were back on the World Athletics tour as they continue a busy summer ahead of the World Championships.
Anthonique Strachan and Camille Rutherford were back at it in Switzerland at the Elite Track and Field meet in Lucerne, Switzerland.
Strachan continued her 2025 campaign with a second place finish in the 200m in 22.93 seconds.
In the women’s 100m, Rutherford continued her consistency on the circuit with a third place finish in 11.31 seconds.
The performance adds to her string of final appearances this summer as she builds momentum heading into the World Championships.
Baseball
Bohan Adderley’s debut season in the Florida Complex League had another milestone moment.
Adderley hit a dramatic walk-off home run to dead center field on July 11, lifting his fcl mets to a 4-3 win over the FCL Nationals.
On Thursday, he got the start in shortstop and finished 2-5 with an RBI in a loss to the FCL Marlins.
Adderley’s promotion to the FCL got off to a slow start but has had several signature moments.
He also had his first four-hit game, which also included a grand slam.
Softball
The junior national softball teams are taking the field again, this time at the Pony World Series.
The 14u and 18u teams will compete at the Pony International World Series which began today and runs through July 20 in Mcallen, Texas.
The 14u team recently won the Babe Ruth International Invitational in Fort Myers, Florida.
Both teams began the first of their three games in pool play today.
The 14u team defeated the STX Sun Devils 13-2.
