PHOENIX, ARIZONA – Jonquel jones will have a busy WNBA All-Star weekend.
Jones will headline the three-point contest tomorrow on all-star Friday night, in Phoenix, Arizona.
You can watch live on ESPN at 9pm.
This will be her second appearance in the contest after a second place finish in 2021.
The rest of the field includes Washington Mystics center Stefanie Dolson, Atlanta Dream guard Allisha Gray, Connecticut Sun guard Marina Mabrey and Minnesota Lynx guard Kayla McBride.
Jones has made 40 threes on the year, and is shooting 39.6 percent, ninth-best in the league.
Jones also was named a WNBA all-star for the fifth time in her seven year career.
Her all-star team will take on the us olympic team, july 20 at the footprint center.
Track and Field
Keyshawn Strachan becomes the latest javelin star to join the Bahamian pipeline to Lincoln, Nebraska.
Strachan announced on social media Wednesday night that he will transfer to the university of Nebraska for the upcoming fall campaign.
Strachan, the Bahamian national record holder, joins the program that included fellow national record holder Rhema Otabor, and just signed high school stars Dior-Rae Scott and Taysha Stubbs.
He began his collegiate career with the Auburn Tigers in the SEC.
As a freshman he threw his personal, best 84.27m in March 2023, but injuries hampered his sophomore season.
He placed fifth at the ncaa di outdoor championships this year and had a season’s best throw of 76.25m.
Basketball
The Michael Scooter Reid Peace on The Streets Basketball tournament is heading toward championship weekend.
One of the most anticipated events on the summer hoops calendar, year 29 has been living up to the expectations.
The six-day competition at the hope center courts features dozens teams representing clubs, schools, and communities across five divisions – including the 13-and under, 16-and under, 19-and under, church and open divisions.
This all leads up to Family Fun night on July 21, showcasing the championship games and celebrity game between the clergy and politicians at the Kendal G.L. Isaacs gymnasium.
The night also features the iHop-sponsored slam dunk contest and the Mr. Ship It three-point shootout.
Soccer
It’s also a busy weekend for the Bahamas Football Association as they prepare to take on the optimal training foundation – tonight we take a look at the girls’ side.
The under 15 side has been training consistently under the bfa’s center of excellence and are prepared to showcase their skills.
Matches are scheduled to take place from July 19th to July 21st at the Roscow A.L. Davies Fields. Admission is free.
Friday the girls play at 9am followed by the boys at 10:30am. Friday the girls play at 9am and 6pm while the boys play 10:30am and 7pm.
On the final match day Sunday the girls play at 6pm followed by the boys at 7pm.
