NASSAU, BAHAMAS – If you’ve been dodging potholes, stuck in traffic, or navigating through mucky roads near Joe Farrington Road,  some much-needed relief may be on the way.

The Water and Sewerage Corporation (WSC) says it’s nearly finished with the first phase of a $1.2 million water main replacement project. The state-run utility says the upgrades will not only improve water quality but also pave the way for full road restoration.

Henrea Curry, Assistant Engineer at WSC:

“We’ve completed about 1,500 feet of a 10-inch main, which makes up roughly 60% of phase one, stretching from Bailey Road to Marigold Farm Road. What’s left includes installing another 350 feet of the 10-inch main, 60 feet of a 2-inch pipe at 40 junctions, connecting service laterals to homes and businesses, and finally, testing and commissioning the new line with hydrostatic and chlorination procedures.”

Curry says the project is a joint effort between WSC, the Ministry of Works and Family Island Affairs, and Bakerwick Construction, and is expected to wrap up in about two weeks.

Henrea Curry:

“Once we complete phase one, we’ll begin moving east toward Fox Hill Road. After the full pipe installation, we’ll carry out final testing and commissioning. Once the new line is live and performing well, we’ll decommission the old line. That’s when the Ministry of Works will begin full road repaving, something we know residents have been anxiously waiting for.”

In the meantime, delays and detours will continue, but Curry believes the long-term benefits will outweigh the short-term inconvenience.

Henrea Curry:

“This project is directly improving the daily lives of residents by delivering clean, reliable water. We know the road works can be frustrating, but we sincerely thank the community for their patience and cooperation as we complete this vital upgrade.”
