Jones and The Liberty Break The Fever

NY Scores WNBA Record 44 Points in The First Quarter

USA – Jonquel Jones had 18 points and 11 rebounds to help her New York Liberty throttle the Indiana Fever in Barclay’s Center yesterday. 

The game was never in doubt for the Liberty as they got out to a 44-17 lead to close out the first quarter. Setting a record for most points scored in the league’s 26-year history.

The Fever never got back in the game at any point after the Liberty’s history-making first quarter as the Liberty continued to bomb away from the three-point line, going 8-17 from distance, good for 47%.

JJ’s 18 points came on 6-11 shooting. She also had a block and 2 assists to round things out. 

Betnija Laney led the Liberty in scoring with 22 points. She also had 2 rebounds.

Victoria Vivians led the Fever with 16 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists.

Unfortunately, every bucket she scored was futile, thanks to the Liberty’s huge early lead.

This is the Liberty’s second straight win after they beat the Washington Mystics 96-87 on Friday, thanks to 27 points and 11 rebounds from JJ. 

The Liberty will host the Seattle Storm in Barclay’s on Tuesday.
