FLORIDA, UNITED STATES – Jonquel Jones has officially announced her intention to join the stakeholders of Project B, the rapidly growing professional women’s basketball league making headlines across the sport.
Jones becomes the latest star to sign on, joining WNBPA President Nneka Ogwumike and Alyssa Thomas as the first major names to commit to the league.
Project B is one of several new leagues created in recent years to offer women’s professional basketball players additional opportunities. Unrivaled, a Florida-based 3-on-3 league, has gained attention for its fast-paced format, while Athletes Unlimited continues to innovate with weekly drafts and an individual points system instead of fixed teams.
Project B, however, stands out as a traditional five-on-five global league offering some of the highest salaries in women’s basketball, positioning it as potential direct competition for the WNBA.
The league will operate as a seven-week tournament circuit, featuring 66 players and six teams, with games running November through April across Europe, Asia, and the Americas.
With WNBA CBA negotiations ongoing, Project B has become the offseason storyline to watch, not only for its global format and compensation structure but also because players will receive equity in the league, a groundbreaking shift in professional women’s sports.
