New York Liberty Beats Atlanta Dream 106-83

Atlanta, GA, USA. Grand Bahama’s Jonquel Jones had what may have been her best game of the season on Friday night as her New York Liberty blew out the Atlanta Dream 106-83.

JJ had 11 points and 8 rebounds in only 20 minutes of play. She also anchored the defense to the tune of 2 blocks.

The Liberty got off to an early lead, never looking back, thanks to a transcendent night from guard Sabrina Ionescu. The 1 overall pick of the 2020 WNBA draft scored a career-high 37 points on a franchise, and a personal record 8 3-pointers. Breanna Stewart added 25 points and 9 rebounds.

Allisha Gray led the Deam with 17 points and 5 rebounds. Unfortunately for them, they had no counter to Ionescu’s record-setting night.

Jones managed to be productive in limited minutes as she labors through a stress fracture in her foot that she suffered in last year’s WNBA finals when she played for the Connecticut Sun. Breanna Stewart, Sabrina Ionescu and Courtney Vandersloot have picked up the slack, leading the team to a 5-2 record so far on the season.

If JJ can recover to anywhere near last year’s level of play, the Liberty has the potential to make a finals run.
