NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A jury didn’t get to decide the fate of a man accused of attempted murder after a judge declared a mistrial because a key witness was unavailable.

Cleophus “Cash” Smith is expected to face a retrial for the October 23, 2022 shooting of Leonard Symonette.

Symonette was working on a car through Peter Street when two gunmen, one of them alleged to be Smith, emerged from a car and shot him.

Symonette was killed in an unrelated incident in April 2025.
