HAITI – The first Kenyan police officers assigned to combat gang violence in Haiti have departed Tuesday.

The troops are set to arrive this week, according to the U.S. State Department.

Kenya’s internal security and national administration ministry, shared photos of the police contingent inside a plane on Monday.

Kenya volunteered in July 2023 to head this international force due to rampant gang control in Port-Au-Prince. The deployment has faced delays due to court challenges and worsening security, which led to the acting prime minister’s resignation in March.
