NASSAU, BAHAMAS – As climate change continues to have devastating effects on island nations like The Bahamas, Prime Minister Philip Davis says the possibility of legal action against oil-producing countries should be up for discussion.

He also believes penalties should be levied against those countries that are the largest contributors to climate change.

His comments come as he along with other regional leaders prepare for the COP 28 Meeting in Dubai in November.

The prime minister, who has become a proponent for climate change, says they’re awaiting advice from the International Court of Justice to see if countries can be held responsible for their emission.

The Bahamas is among those countries directly in harm’s way when discussing the harsh impacts of climate change.

The devastation left behind by monster hurricane Dorian is just one example of how we are impacted.

At the upcoming meeting, Davis says the region will also be pushing for climate financing, and loss and damage financing will also be made available.
