NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Government preparing legislation that will impose taxes on sugar and excess salt being imported into the country.

That’s according to Health and Wellness Minister Dr. Michael Darville, who says this will promote nutrition and the selection of the right foods.

He adds, The Bahamas has the highest rate of obesity, diabetes, and hypertension in the region.

He also says government is about to establish a Health and Wellness Unit focusing on nutrition, physical activity, and mental health across the country.
