New York Liberty Take Commanding Lead in WNBA Finals

In the first two games of the WNBA Finals, the New York Liberty surrendered early leads. But in Game 3, they staged a comeback to take a commanding lead in the series.

Jonquel Jones scored 13 points, grabbed five rebounds, dished four assists, and blocked two shots in the Liberty’s 80-77 win over the Minnesota Lynx at the Target Center in Minnesota.

The Liberty now lead the series 2-1 and are one win away from their first title in franchise history. New York trailed by as many as 15 points before taking the lead with 2:10 left in the fourth quarter, tying the second-largest comeback win in their postseason history.

Before tip-off, Jones was named to the All-WNBA Second Team, marking another career milestone. She averaged 14.2 points, 9.0 rebounds (6th in WNBA), and 1.3 blocks per game (T-9th in WNBA) while shooting 54% from the field. Jones also led all centers with a career-high 3.2 assists per game. This is her fifth career All-WNBA selection and her first with the Liberty.

Mets Look to Stay Alive in NLCS

The New York Mets have two more chances at home to advance to the National League Championship Series. They trail the L.A. Dodgers 2-1 after an 8-0 loss at Citi Field.

A pivotal Game 4 is set for tonight at 8:08 p.m., with Yoshinobu Yamamoto starting for the Dodgers and José Quintana taking the mound for the Mets.

Ayton and Gordon Shine in NBA Preseason

National team players Deandre Ayton and Eric Gordon stood out in recent NBA preseason action.

Ayton scored 13 points and grabbed eight rebounds in the Portland Trail Blazers’ 111-100 win over German club Ratiopharm Ulm at the Moda Center.

Gordon added eight points in eight minutes in the Philadelphia 76ers’ 117-95 win over the Brooklyn Nets. The 76ers also waived forward Isaiah Mobley, who is expected to join their G-League affiliate under his Exhibit 10 deal.

Bahamas Bowl Update: Week 8 Projections

With the college football season well underway, Bahamas Bowl projections are taking shape.

In Conference USA, Louisiana Tech earned Team of the Week honors with a 48-21 win over Middle Tennessee State. Western Kentucky’s Michael Mathison scored three touchdowns—two receiving and one rushing—in their 44-17 victory over UTEP.

In the MAC, Buffalo joined a three-way tie at the top of the standings with a 30-15 win over Toledo. Miami (Ohio) quarterback Brett Gabbert threw for 222 yards and four touchdowns in a 38-14 win over Eastern Michigan.

Week 8 projections for the Bahamas Bowl are as follows:
