NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Members of Pride Bahamas organization and members of Churches United in Christ assembled for a human rights march, but both for different reasons.

The march is a part of a list of activities on the Pride Bahamas calendar.

Supporters of the LGBTQIA community showed up to participate in the March, while members of Churches United in Christ came to protest.

2nd Vice Chair of Pride Bahamas, Mctair Farrington, clarifying that there is a misconception that the demonstration is solely for members of the LGBTQIA community.

He says, in fact, it is a march for all groups whose human rights are being violated.

“Last year we had our first human rights march in collaboration with the U.S. embassy and this year we’re in collaboration with the British High Commission. It’s not just a march about [LBGTIA] affairs or [LGBTIA] persons in The Bahamas, it’s a march about any marginalized groups.”

“So you’ll see women fighting for women’s rights, people fighting for people out here in the diaspora like the Haitian or the migrant communities…,” Farrington said.

Not long after our interview with Farrington, the two groups began to clash.

During the chaos, Farrington described supporters of Churches United in Christ as rogue members of the country’s faith organization.

“The Christian Council isn’t out today, these are two pastors or prophets. They came out, they went rogue from the [Bahamas] Christian Council,” he said.

Directors of Churches United in Christ Prophetess Rev. Dr. Patrice T Smith and Pastor Carol Moss refuted that claim, telling media their group’s intentions was not to insight a war, but to spread the gospel.

“We are not in competition or direct contention to the Christian Council let me make that very clear, let me be clear,” she said.

“The guard rails of the church is that we are to stand in holiness and decree and declare thus said the lord, and yes of course they are doing somethings that are seemingly good but the foundation of it all is evil,” she said.

Pastor Carol Moss – Director, Churches United in Christ

“Our Bible speaks against this, so because our Bible speaks against this, then we speak against it, it doesn’t mean I hate you [or] I dislike you, matter of fact I love you but because God speaks against this we agree with him,” Moss said.
