NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The Court of Appeal on Friday refused to permanently stay the corruption trial of embattled FNM MP Adrian Gibson.

Gibson and his co-accused Jerome Missick and Joann Knowles had argued that their constitutional rights to a fair trial had been breached because they were denied the chance to choose whether they wanted a trial in the Supreme Court or in the Magistrates’ Court.

The Court of Appeal found that the argument had no merit, paving the way for the trial to begin before Justice Cheryl Grant-Thompson on Monday.

Gibson is accused of receiving $ 1.1 million in kickbacks from contracts awarded by the Water and Sewerage Corporation while he served as its executive chairman.

He’s also charged along with the corporation’s former general manager, Elwood Donaldson, Peaches Farquharson, and his cousin, Rashae Gibson.
