GRENADA – Team Bahamas was back on the podium at the 53rd CARIFTA Games in Grenada, and this time the long jumpers are leading the charge.
Carlin Archer soared to gold in the U20B long jump with a massive personal best of 7.68m.
Archer continued a breakout season where he set new personal bests several times this season, twice in Grenada.
Joshua Williams added to the medal haul with a bronze medal jump of 7.16m.
All eight Bahamians are through to tomorrow’s 200m finals.
In the U17G, Keyezra Thomas ran 23.96 to qualify third fastest, while Brion Ward was the fifth fastest qualifier in 24.24.
In the U17B, Emmile Higgins won his heat in 21.92, the third fastest time overall, and Zion Bradford advanced with 21.86 as the fifth seed.
In the U20G, both Alexis Roberts and Saige Demeritte ran identical times of 23.58 secs, and will enter as the fourth and fifth seeds.
Then, in the I20B, Javano Bridgewater and Eagan Neely both booked their spots in the final with times of 20.76 and 20.63 seconds respectively.
The same held true in the 400m hurdles, where all four Bahamians advanced to the final.
In the U20B, Zion Davis ran 52.22 secs to qualify fourth fastest, and Jachario Wilson advanced with a time of 52.45 secs.
In the U20G, Syrmiah Crawley won her heat in 1:00.61, the second fastest time overall, while Darvanique Dean ran 59.85 secs to qualify third overall.
Quartermilers Headline Night One Medal Winners
Quartermilers got Saturday’s evening session started in the individual 400m and ended the night on a high note in the mixed relay.
Keyezra Thomas was back at it in the U17 girls 400m, clocking 52.58 secs to win silver for the second straight year.
Brianna Bootle was fifth in the final in 56.71 secs.
In the U20 boys 400m, Zion Davis powered to silver in 46.18 seconds in a final so fast that seven of the eight runners went sub-46.
Javano Bridgewater was right there too, finishing sixth in 46.66.
The U17 boys joined the count thanks to Zion Bradford, who raced to bronze in 48.43 seconds.
The 100m provided peak drama as Jazae Johnson won silver in 11.30, the exact same time as the gold medalist Tina Feyton – decided by a heartbreaking photo finish.
Brion Ward took bronze in 11.63.
Elsewhere in the session, Kei-Marie Hanna finished fifth in the U20 girls 400m.
In the field, Dwayne Saunders was fourth and Kaiden Miller fifth in the U17 boys triple jump, while Carmeljo Woodside placed sixth in the U20 boys discus.
Naveah Moncur finished fourth in the girls pole vault.
In the U20 girls triple jump, Caitlyn Smith was seventh and Zante Ferguson eighth.
On the track, Gabrielle Lawrensky finished 13th in the U17 boys 1500m, while Ross Martin Jr. was sixth, and Benryco Pierre 15th in the U20 final.
Sprint finals saw Avonte Lotmore finish seventh in the U17 boys 100m, Deryn Rodgers seventh in the U20 girls, and Everette Fraser fifth in the U20 boys final.
