GRAND BAHAMA, BAHAMAS – More memoranda signed but, no update on the redevelopment and reopening of the Grand Lucayan Resort.

For Grand Bahamians hoping to hear good news on the now defunct hotel resort anchor property, Prime Minister Philip Davis says, these things take time.

The nation’s leader, supported by his cabinet ministers, making several announcements late this afternoon on Grand Bahama, from utility services, to an update on the international airport and a new cruise port.

Our News Anchor Megan Shepherd reports from Grand Bahama tonight.

The Prime Minister says this memorandum of understanding reflects a shared commitment to exploring a new path forward for energy in Grand Bahama.

When completed, it will mark the first time the government has had control of the power company since the Hawksbill Creek Agreement was signed.

Davis noting that this is not about control, but rather, fairness, affordability and aligning energy policy with the needs of the people.

He also addressed a long standing bone of contention – the Grand Bahama International Airport.

This progress comes, he claims, as the island’s tourism industry is showing real growth, pointing to increased air and sea arrivals.

The prime minister also spoke to gains in the economy – evidenced in growth in the transportation, small businesses and hospitality sectors.

Davis telling Grand Bahamians, just yesterday, government signed off on another major relaunch of their economy.
