NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A man who claimed a 2021 shooting was to avenge a relative’s rape has been jailed for 30 years.

Tavare Mejias, otherwise known as Lil Spoon, received the sentence for the attempted murder of Desmond “Strapp” Smith.

Mejias said that word on the street was that Smith was responsible for his niece’s rape.

He said he decided to take matters into his own hands on April 10, 2021 when he saw Smith at the B Watts Liquor Store on Bethel Avenue.

Smith was killed in an unrelated incident on 2023.

In 2013, Mejias was sentenced to 10 years in prison for an attempted murder that happened at the same bar.

Darwin Forbes and Apricio Fox were watching a basketball game at the bar on December 25, 2010 when Mejias opened fire after eating three “herb cookies.
