Man Jailed for 35 Years for Murder of Baby Mother’s Boyfriend

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A 28-year-old man has been jailed for 35 tears for the murder of the new love interest of the mother of his child.

Franco Ferguson claimed he acted in self-defense when he cut Charles Demeritte’ femoral artery on September 11, 2020, causing him to bleed to death.

But jurors found the killing was unjustified as witnesses said that Demewas unarmed when he was stabbed in the thigh.

It all began when Ferguson came to the woman’s Claridge Road apartment at her invitation.

Demeritte pulled a knife on him and Ferguson locked himself in the bathroom before climbing onto the roof through the window.

He was convinced to come down after his daughter’s mother convinced Demeritte to give him the knife.

But, once Ferguson came down, Demeritte attacked him again and put him in a headlock, and Ferguson stabbed him.

Justice Dale Fitzpatrick said the sentence was intended to deter others from settling disputes violently.
