NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A Supreme Court judge has sentenced a man to 15 years in prison for possession of an assault rifle and 21 rounds of ammunition.

Antonio Cartwright learned his fate when he appeared before Justice Franklyn Williams Wednesday.

He was arrested on May 5, 2022 on St. Lucia Street in Elizabeth Estates.

Officers on patrol saw him brandishing the weapon, and Cartwright allegedly opened fire at the officers as they approached.

He was arrested soon after with the weapon by another unit.

A jury acquitted Cartwright of the attempted murders of the officers, but found him guilty of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
