NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A man who killed a 56-year-old by beating him with a bat has been sentenced to seven years and six months in prison after pleading guilty to manslaughter.

The deadly incident took place in June of 2023 after 38-year-old Reginald Chase got into an argument with Michael Pratt at his Malcolm Road home.

Chase, of Nassau Village, hit Pratt in the head and chest during the dispute, causing fatal injuries.

Chase was initially charged with murder in Pratt’s death.

But the charge was reduced to manslaughter when Chase accepted a plea deal when he appeared before Justice Neil Brathwaite.

Justice Brathwaite sentenced Chase to 10 years in prison but the sentence was reduced to seven years and six months to reflect the time he spent in custody.

Cashena Thompson, Kristin Butler-Beneby and Tabitha Frazier were the prosecutors.

Ian Cargill appeared for Chase.
