NASSAU, BAHAMAS – This week, one of our very own gems brought home the crown of Miss Plus World, and she says she’s not done yet.

The young mother of one telling our Joshua Williams it’s all about breaking barriers, inspiring young girls, and continuing to be authentically her.

He sat down with her this week and has this report.

Meet Marissa Coakley, a young Bahamian who’s big dreams have been recognized.

Recently, she was crowned Miss Plus World and with years of experience in pageantry, she says to see her work be rewarded, is an amazing feeling.

“I think I am still processing it that I’ve actually came out on top representing the Bahamas and not just you know representing a pageant here but just an international pageant so I think it’s history”

She also shares a lot of the misconceptions people have about pageantry.

“I think that people think pageantry is just about modeling if you’re not a model you can’t join a pageant but when I join my first pageant Miss Universe Palm as I had 0 pageant experience, I was not a model, but I just wanted to get my advocacy out there, which is PCOS awareness so I wanted to spread awareness for my platform and so a lot of people anything pageantry they think you have to be a model or you have to be a size 2 but you actually don’t”

Finally, she shares this word of advice for all of the young girls out there.

“You don’t have to be perfect. I’m not perfect. When I came into pageantry that were a lot of things that I had to learn and I did say that this would’ve been my last pageant so to win like this really this really made me feel proud of myself and a lot of girls they think that OK they have to be super skinny or they have to be this perfect person to join a pageant, but you actually don’t just be authentic and be unapologetically you and you will definitely come on top”
