NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A Miami man who brought a gun and ammunition into the country has paid a $15,000 fine, avoiding a 30-month prison sentence.

Gerardo Delfin, 36, pleaded guilty to possession of an unlicensed firearm and possession of ammunition at his arraignment before Magistrate Lennox Coleby.

He was arrested on June 30 after Royal Bahamas Defence Force officers boarded his boat, which was docked at the Atlantis Marina, and found a .40 caliber pistol and 20 rounds of ammunition.

As a result, he was arrested and turned over to the police.

Delfin has a license to carry the gun in Florida, but he failed to declare the weapon when he cleared customs.

Delfin told police that he’d brought the gun for his protection.
